Quilt Lessons Let You Be Creative!

August 30, 2012    Sophie is on a schedule to get her lap quilt done from her first quilt lessons.  Sunday afternoon all of her classmates from the quilt lessons are getting together to show off their completed quilts, along with a pot luck supper to celebrate! So far I am right on schedule, the only problem I have been having is making myself go to bed.  As my quilt is progressing, I don't want to stop...I want to see what it will look like.  I did over do it one night and instead of just cutting out all my pieces, I continued to sew them all together making my four Bear Paw blocks.  The next morning was a rough one, my bed felt so good.  Instead of taking  just one tall cup of coffee to drink in the car on the way to work...I filled up a thermos!  Needless to say, I was wired by the time I made it to work.  The day was going great till the afternoon, when it hit me...I need to drink more coffee or take a nap before I drive home!   Since I completed what I needed on Tuesday night, I went to bed early to catch up on my sleep. Tonight I get to be creative with the layout of my blocks.  One of the things I learned through my quilt lessons is that nothing is set in stone.  You don't always have to follow a pattern, you can make your own version.  I had 16 blocks to use for pattern, which makes it 4 blocks across with 4 rows down.  I don't want to make it square so I need to put sashing (extra fabric) between the rows to make it longer.  With a little bit of math, I figured out how wide to cut my sashing. Enough for tonight...completion tomorrow!
