“FALL”ing in Love With Fabrics for Quilting

August 20, 2012     Sophie has just recieved a flyer from one of the local quilt shops announcing the arrival of  new “Fall” fabrics for quilting.

Going back to work after a week of vacation is challenging.  Would I rather be sitting at my desk, punching numbers into a calculator or sitting on the dock, listening to the waves slap against the rocks…Duh!!!  I had better keep punching numbers so I can buy that piece of property on the lake, and build my own cabin.  Having that goal of building a cabin in the near future helps keep the enthusiam for working long days to earn some extra pay.

After work, I could not stop myself from visiting the quilt shop and checking out the “Fall” fabrics for quilting.  As I walked into the shop, there they were so beautifully displayed, rusts, browns, greens and golds.  The line of fabric that left me wanting, must of had twelve or so different coordinating patterns, and there was not one single bolt that I didn’t like.  Not too far from the display, was a quilt made with this line of fabrics for quilting.  The pattern they used to make the quilt was on the front cover of the “American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine”  October issue.  As I stood and admired the quilt, I tried to figure out if I had enough skill to tackle this pattern.  Most of the quilt was something I had done before except for the applique.  Knowing that the shop always had quilt lessons going on during the year, I checked to see if one for applique was being offered.  My lucky day, there was a one day class next Saturday…sign me up!

With the magazine open to the pattern, I started picking out the fabrics that I wanted in my quilt.  With my arms full of fabric bolts, I headed to the cutting table to have cut what I needed for the quilt…plus a little more!

What projects are you working on using the beautiful “Fall” fabrics for quilting?                                (see “Leave a Reply” below)
